Thursday Night Football Analysis (Podcast tomorrow)
The podcast will be up tomorrow, but in the meantime, here's some analysis of Thursday's game between the Panthers and the Bucs:
While Cam Newton hasn't consistently put up big numbers this season, he's done well against terrible defenses, and that's exactly what he's going up against on Thursday. Newton threw for just 204 yards and one touchdown against the Rams last week, but the Bucs are even worse than the Rams, so expect Newton to perform like he did against the Giants and Vikings earlier this season. Newton is a solid QB1 this week. Running back DeAngelo Williams struggled against the Rams, gaining just 40 yards on the ground. He'll continue to get carries, though, and he has a good matchup this week. Consider him a low-end RB2/flex. Receiver Steve Smith had 69 yards and a TD against the Rams, which is about what you should expect against the Bucs. While the Bucs do have a terrible pass defense, Smith will get all of the attention, meaning someone like Brandon LaFell could have a big game. LaFell isn't a bad sleeper option for a flex spot.
Things just keep getting worse for the Bucs. Doug Martin has a shoulder injury, and he's officially been ruled out of tomorrow's game. That means Mike James will get the start. Don't bother putting James into your lineup, though, as the Panthers boast the league's fourth-best run defense. The Bucs actually didn't play that badly against the Falcons, as QB Mike Glennon threw for 256 yards and 2 TDs. Glennon spent most of the day throwing to Vincent Jackson, targeting VJax 22 times and connecting on 10 of those for 138 yards and both of his TDs. Again, the Panthers have a good defense, but Jackson will get so many looks that it's hard to bench him. Consider him a high-end WR2.
We'll have the podcast up tomorrow afternoon.

No podcast tonight
No podcast tonight, but one will be going up on Friday with analysis of each game.
Since the Thursday game will have already taken place, here are our thoughts and predictions for that game:
Bills-Browns, 7:30 CST, NFLN: The Browns are still surprisingly looking un-Browns like. Brian Hoyer once again had a good performance, this time throwing for 269 yards and 2 TDs in the win over the Bengals. TE Jordan Cameron continued his breakout season, catching 10 passes for 91 yards and a TD. Cameron, who has had 5 TDs this season, is quickly emerging as one of the league's best TEs, and is a must-start in all formats this week. Hoyer is a good bye-week replacement against a Bills defense that is 22nd in the league in pass defense. The Bills are even worse against the run, but that doesn't necessarily mean anyone in the Browns backfield is a good start. Willis McGahee carried the ball 15 times but gained just 46 yards, and Chris Ogbonnaya had just 5 carries for 27 yards. This difference between the two came in the receiving game, where Ogbonnaya had 5 catches for 21 yards and a TD. If you have to choose between the two, McGahee is probably a better option in a standard league, but Ogbonnaya presents more upside in a PPR. WR Josh Gordon had 4 catches for 71 yards last week and is a good play against the Bills.
For Buffalo, there are injury concerns in the backfield. C.J. Spiller has an ankle injury and officially didn't practice on Tuesday. Spiller said he's going to try to play, but as of now, things aren't looking good. Fred Jackson (MCL) was limited in practice but looks to have the better chance to play. The Browns surprisingly have the fourth best rushing defense in the league, so Jackson and Spiller might not be your best options this week, especially with both injured. Not a lot to like in the Bills passing game. E.J. Manuel continues to struggle, and No.1 WR Stevie Johnson suffered last week because of it, catching just one ball for -1 yard. Robert Woods had 80 yards and a TD, but don't expect that kind of production out of the rookie every week.
We'll have the full podcast up on Friday.
